In the quiet community of Alton, Virginia, a tragedy unfolded on June 7, 2022, leaving neighbors in shock. On that Tuesday afternoon, deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Mount Carmel Road around 1:40 p.m. Inside the home, they discovered the bodies of 72-year-old Janette Yates and her 80-year-old husband, David Yates.
Authorities quickly determined that the incident was a murder-suicide.
The investigation revealed that David Yates had used a. 38 caliber revolver to fatally shoot his wife before turning the weapon on himself. The motive behind the shocking act remained unclear to investigators. Janette Yates was a White female.
