On a cold November evening in Long Branch, New Jersey, a dedicated police officer's life was tragically cut short in a calculated act of violence. Detective Sergeant Patrick A. King, a 45-year-old male and a 22-year veteran of the Long Branch Police Department, was on his dinner break on November 20, 1997. He was standing at the counter of a local Chinese restaurant, waiting for his food, when a man walked up behind him and shot him twice in the back of the head.
