The events leading up to the fatal incident began at a gathering hosted by Gunar at his Ringwood residence. An argument reportedly erupted between Gunar and Coogan, escalating to a fatal confrontation. Investigations by the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and Ringwood police concluded that Gunar, a disbarred attorney, fatally shot Coogan before turning the gun on himself.
