In an act of selfless courage, 48-year-old John Carey, a male resident of Audubon, New Jersey, lost his life on March 4, 2014. Carey was fatally shot when he stepped in to protect a woman and her young child from a violent domestic assault. The incident unfolded in a converted boarding house on the 500 block of the White Horse Pike, where Carey resided.
