In the late hours of a July evening in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the life of 37-year-old Shavonne M. McKee was tragically cut short. On July 3, 2016, at approximately 11:20 p.m., police responded to a 9-1-1 call about a shooting on the 400 block of North Virginia Avenue. Upon their arrival, they found McKee suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical responders rushed her to the AtlantiCare Medical Center—City Division, but she was pronounced dead just before midnight.
An autopsy later confirmed that Shavonne McKee's death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds. Known affectionately as 'Vonnie G,' she was a mother to three children and a dedicated employee at a nursing home in nearby Pleasantville.
In the wake of her death, a memorial of balloons and stuffed animals appeared near the scene of the shooting, a testament to the community's grief over her violent passing.
