In the late hours of a Thursday in August 2017, the life of Malcolm T. Ford, a 24-year-old male from Orange, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. On August 24th, Ford was in the vicinity of the 200 block of Scotland Road in Orange when he was fatally shot. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene and quickly transported him to University Hospital in Newark in an effort to save his life.
Despite the urgent medical attention, the gravity of his injuries was too severe.
At 11:17 p.m. that same evening, doctors at the hospital pronounced Malcolm T. Ford dead. The incident prompted an immediate and active investigation, led by a collaboration between the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Orange Police Department.
In the days following the shooting, authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to a break in the case. The investigation into the fatal shooting of Malcolm T. Ford was announced as ongoing. However, in the initial reports following the incident, no arrests had been made in connection with his death, and no suspects had been publicly identified. Ford had been employed as a security officer at Essex County Newark Tech and had also worked at the Turtleback Zoo.
