On the evening of October 8, 2020, a domestic dispute in Salem City, New Jersey, escalated into a fatal encounter that claimed the life of 28-year-old Derek L. Akins Jr. and another man, 33-year-old John Robinson of Penns Grove. The tragic events unfolded at a residence where tensions had been simmering. Police had been called to the home twice that same day with requests to remove Desmond D. Lane, a 30-year-old resident of the home, from the property.
