In the early morning hours of November 3, 2020, a sense of unease settled over the Sunbury Village section of Pemberton Township, New Jersey. Inside a vehicle driving along Kinsley Road, 27-year-old Shaimere Turner, a Black male, was seated in the front passenger seat. Though his legal address was in Camden, he had been staying with relatives in Pemberton. At approximately 4 a.m., the pre-dawn quiet was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Multiple shots were fired into the car, striking Turner.
