In the early morning hours of November 3, 2020, a sense of unease settled over the Sunbury Village section of Pemberton Township, New Jersey. Inside a vehicle driving along Kinsley Road, 27-year-old Shaimere Turner, a Black male, was seated in the front passenger seat. Though his legal address was in Camden, he had been staying with relatives in Pemberton. At approximately 4 a.m., the pre-dawn quiet was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Multiple shots were fired into the car, striking Turner.
The driver, who was the only other occupant of the vehicle, was not injured and immediately sped away from the scene, heading directly for the Pemberton Township police station in a desperate attempt to get help for the mortally wounded Turner. Despite the driver's swift actions, Turner succumbed to his injuries before they could reach the station and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.
The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and the Pemberton Township Police Department launched a joint investigation into the homicide. Detectives worked the case, seeking to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. As of yet, no arrests have been made in connection with Shaimere Turner's death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and have offered a $5,000 reward for any tips that lead to an arrest and conviction in the case. The investigation remains open as they continue to seek justice for Turner.
