In the summer of 2021, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in a brazen daylight shooting in Plainfield, New Jersey. On the afternoon of Friday, July 9, 2021, Jennifer Vorn, a 24-year-old female from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, was the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded near the intersection of Rock Avenue and West Front Street. When police responded to reports of gunfire, they discovered Vorn and a male companion, both having sustained serious injuries from the shooting. Vorn was pronounced dead at the scene. The male victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of serious injuries which he survived, but was left permanently paralyzed.
The investigation into the double shooting was led by the Union County Homicide Task Force, with assistance from several other law enforcement agencies. Details that emerged during the subsequent trial painted a grim picture of the events of that day.
Two men, Jahaad Ingram and Zaire Wallace, both from Plainfield, had followed Vorn and her companion in their vehicle. When the victims' car stopped at a traffic light, Ingram and Wallace exited their black Buick SUV, armed with handguns, and fired at least 16 rounds into the other vehicle.
Later that same evening, at around 8 p.m., Zaire Wallace was apprehended while driving the Buick used in the shooting. Jahaad Ingram was found and arrested nearby. In October 2023, a Union County jury found both Ingram, then 23, and Wallace, then 30, guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, and several weapons-related charges. On January 12, 2024, both men were sentenced to 78 years in state prison. The terms of their sentences require them to serve at least 85% of their term before becoming eligible for parole.
