On the evening of September 4, 2021, a devastating incident unfolded outside a residence on Wintergreen Avenue West in Edison, New Jersey. Tayeesha Webb, a 35-year-old female, was found with a fatal gunshot wound following a reported shooting at approximately 7:28 p.m. First responders arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but tragically, she was pronounced dead at the location. Webb, a mother of five, was also pregnant at the time of her death, and her unborn son was to be named Nadir Webb.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect: 42-year-old Shakir Tyler of Plainfield, who was described as Webb's ex-boyfriend. Authorities determined that the shooting occurred after an argument between Tyler and Webb outside her home. Following the incident, Tyler fled the state, prompting a manhunt.
He was tracked to Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he ultimately surrendered to the local police department.
Shakir Tyler was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose. After his extradition from Pennsylvania, he was held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center. In February 2025, following a two-week trial, a jury found Tyler guilty of the murder of Tayeesha Webb. He was also convicted of unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose. Subsequently, Tyler was sentenced and faces the possibility of life in prison for the crime.
