In a tragic turn of events on April 5, 2024, Patricia A. Novak, a 76-year-old woman from Edison, New Jersey, lost her life in a firearms accident within her own home. The incident unfolded on a Friday afternoon at their residence on Glencourt Avenue. Her husband of 57 years, Robert Novak, 82, was on the first floor of their home, handling one of his registered firearms with the intention of cleaning it.
While he was clearing the weapon, it accidentally discharged. The bullet traveled through the floor, striking Patricia who was in the basement at the time. Upon hearing her scream, Mr. Novak rushed to her side and immediately dialed 911 for assistance. Emergency services responded promptly, and she was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Tragically, she succumbed to the single gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
