In the early morning hours of September 16, 2022, a tragic incident unfolded in a Maple Shade, New Jersey home that claimed the life of 19-year-old Nasiah Carson. The young man was at his residence on South Coles Avenue with his friend, 18-year-old Jah-son Jones of Pemberton. What began as two friends handling a handgun turned into a fatal event.

Believing the firearm to be unloaded, Jones pointed it at Carson and pulled the trigger around 3:45 a.m. A round that was unexpectedly in the chamber discharged, striking Carson. In the immediate aftermath, others in the house rushed Carson to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The Maple Shade Police Department was called to the residence, and an investigation into the shooting commenced. The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office determined that the shooting appeared to be accidental. Following the investigation, Jah-son Jones was taken into custody and charged with second-degree reckless manslaughter, as well as two second-degree firearms offenses. He was subsequently lodged in the Burlington County Jail to await a detention hearing.
