On Thursday, November 17, 2022, a 19-year-old Black male named Nay’sean Byrd was shot and killed in the 800 block of Carteret Avenue. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:30 p.m., when the Trenton Police Department received a notification from their ShotSpotter system, indicating that multiple rounds of gunfire had been discharged in the area.
This alert prompted a swift response from law enforcement, who descended upon the scene to investigate the disturbance.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. A white Mercedes SUV was parked on the street, its body riddled with numerous bullet holes, a testament to the violence that had just occurred.
