Brodie Dagenais, a 22-year-old male, was a lifelong resident of Marquette, Michigan, where he was pursuing a career in nursing at Northern Michigan University. Known for his friendly demeanor and love of music, he was an active member of his high school orchestra and was well-liked by his colleagues at UP Health System - Marquette, where he worked as a unit clerk.
In the early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2015, the home that Brodie shared with two housemates in
Marquette Township became the scene of a tragic event. At approximately 4:40 a.m., a 911 call was made by one of the housemates, 22-year-old Jessica Drummond. When Michigan State Police troopers arrived at the residence, they discovered the bodies of Brodie Dagenais, Jessica Drummond, and their 26-year-old housemate, Charles Masterson.
An initial investigation by the state police revealed that the incident was a domestic dispute that escalated to a double murder and suicide. It was determined that Charles Masterson had shot and killed both Brodie Dagenais and Jessica Drummond before turning the firearm on himself. Autopsies were conducted the following day, confirming the cause of death for all three individuals. Due to the suspect's death, there were no arrests or subsequent trial. Brodie was remembered by friends and family for his infectious smile and as being the life of the party. He was laid to rest after a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Christopher Catholic Church.
