In a tragic series of events in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, 17-year-old Kara Allen, a promising high school senior, was killed on September 21, 2016. A member of the National Honor Society and the varsity cheerleading team, she was fatally shot by her stepfather, Gregory Green. The horrific incident also claimed the lives of Kara's 19-year-old brother, Chadney Allen, and their two half-sisters, 5-year-old Koi Green and 4-year-old Kaleigh Green.
The violence unfolded in the family's home,
where Green also attacked his wife and the mother of all four children, Faith Green. He bound her, cut her face with a box cutter, and shot her in the foot before killing her two older children in front of her. The two younger girls died from carbon monoxide poisoning. After committing these acts, Gregory Green himself called 911 to report the killings and was waiting on the porch to be arrested when police arrived.
The investigation revealed a grim history, as Gregory Green had previously been convicted of murdering his first wife, who was pregnant at the time, in 1991. He had served 16 years in prison for that crime before being paroled. In the case of the deaths of his children and stepchildren, Green was initially charged with four counts of first-degree murder, among other felonies.
Ultimately, Gregory Green pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree murder, as well as torture and assault. This plea was part of an agreement that was approved by Faith Green and the father of Chadney and Kara Allen. In March 2017, he was sentenced to 45 to 100 years in prison for the murders, with an additional 6 to 10 years for the other charges, ensuring he will likely never be eligible for parole.
