A tragic and violent chain of events unfolded on a Monday morning in Detroit, forever altering the lives of several families. Raphael Hall, a 60-year-old deacon, was at a Sunoco gas station on the city's west side when his life was abruptly cut short. On February 26, 2018, while he was pumping gas, a man approached him and opened fire. The gunman, later identified as 27-year-old George Anthony Davis, was involved in a dispute with Hall's daughter, Cierra Bargaineer.
The violence at the
gas station did not end with the deacon. Davis also shot and killed Bargaineer, who was 24, and another woman, 21-year-old Kristin Thomas, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Witnesses reported hearing a barrage of shots as Davis callously took three lives. The motive for this horrific act stemmed from a domestic conflict between Davis and Bargaineer, who was the mother of his child.
Following the brutal slayings at the gas station, Davis fled the scene and continued his violent rampage. He went to a nearby home where he confronted and fatally shot his own cousin, 22-year-old Ja-Mon Thomas. A manhunt for George Anthony Davis ensued, leading law enforcement on a chase that crossed state lines into Ohio. Ultimately, as police closed in, Davis took his own life at a truck stop, bringing a grim end to the devastating series of events he had set in motion.
