On the morning of August 24, 2018, the community of Port Huron, Michigan, was shaken by the tragic death of 45-year-old police Lieutenant Joel Wood, a nearly 23-year veteran of the Port Huron Police Department. Wood, a White male, was off-duty at the time of his death. The incident unfolded in the early hours in Clyde Township, Michigan, at the apartment of his romantic partner, Ashly Reifert.
