Angelina Marie Winn, a 49-year-old woman, was tragically found dead in her Kingsley, Michigan, home on October 25, 2019. A correctional officer with the Michigan Department of Corrections, she was discovered alongside her longtime partner, Tara Kelley, who was also deceased. Both women were veterans of the department and worked at the Oaks Correctional Facility.
Investigators from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office were called to the residence on Walton Road in Paradise Township
where they found both women with gunshot wounds. The initial investigation led police to believe there was no ongoing threat to the public. Subsequent autopsy results confirmed the nature of the tragic event.
The autopsies revealed that Angelina Winn died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso in a death that was ruled a homicide. Tara Kelley, 53, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and her death was ruled a suicide. Investigators believe an argument occurred on the day of the shooting. According to reports, both women had been drinking and were 'well above' the legal limit. Due to the circumstances of a murder-suicide, there were no arrests or suspects outside of the two individuals involved.
