In the quiet city of River Rouge, Michigan, the life of a 23-year-old Black/African American woman, Tamia Cook, was tragically cut short on the evening of December 4, 2019. Cook had just arrived at her home, located in the area of Frazier and Eaton, around 7:30 p.m. As she prepared to step out of her vehicle and head indoors, a sudden and brutal attack unfolded.
At least two gunmen, who were on foot, opened fire from the sidewalk, striking Cook multiple times in what authorities have
described as an execution-style murder. Her husband, who was inside the house at the time, rushed out to find his wife suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services were called, and Cook was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but the severity of her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the homicide of Tamia Cook, the daughter of a retired River Rouge police sergeant, has been ongoing, yet no arrests have been made in the case. Detectives have been following up on leads, with a prevailing theory that Cook may have been an innocent victim of mistaken identity. The River Rouge Public Safety Director suggested that the intended target of the violent assault might have been someone else present in the house, possibly her husband. Despite the collection of numerous shell casings from the scene, the individuals responsible for this senseless act of violence remain at large. The community, shaken by the tragic event, held a candlelight vigil to honor her memory as her family continues to plead for justice.
