In May 2020, the family of Craig ‘CJ’ Myott reported him missing in Flint, Michigan, beginning a painful, year-long period of uncertainty. Myott, a 25-year-old White male, had vanished, and for over a year, his loved ones waited for answers about his whereabouts. The investigation into his disappearance was extensive, with police following up on hundreds of anonymous tips.
The search came to a tragic end on June 28, 2021, when a tip led officers to an isolated, wooded lot near
Stewart Avenue and Clio Road. There, they discovered Myott’s remains under a tarp. Investigators believe he had been killed in a Flint home in May 2020, shortly after he was last seen, and his body was moved to the lot. An investigation revealed he had been shot or bludgeoned to death.
Even before Myott’s body was found, a persistent police investigation had identified four individuals connected to his death. In April 2021, authorities issued warrants for Cody Lee Rolland, Devin Adonis Sayles, Madison Ann-Marie Merrill, and Selena Sky Johnson. They faced a range of serious charges, including first-degree murder, felony firearm, gang membership, and tampering with evidence. By the end of April 2021, all four suspects were in custody.
Prosecutors stated their belief that Myott’s murder was the result of an internal gang dispute. They alleged that Myott was a member of the same gang as his killers and that they had put out a “green light” on him, an order to kill one of their own.
The legal proceedings moved forward over the next few years. In July 2023, co-defendant Madison Merrill pleaded guilty to disinterment and mutilation of a dead body for her role in helping to clean up the crime scene. The case reached its conclusion in May 2024, when Cody Rolland pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony firearm in connection with Craig Myott's killing.
