John Darrell Slowick Jr., a 31-year-old White / Caucasian male, was tragically killed on the evening of June 6, 2020, in what Redford Charter Township police believe was a road rage incident. He had been driving home after celebrating his sister's birthday when the fatal encounter occurred. The night of celebration turned into a tragedy that would forever mark his family.
While driving near Telegraph and Acacia, Slowick was shot twice.
The bullets penetrated his car, striking him and causing him to lose control of his vehicle, which then crashed into a tree. The shooting appeared to be the culmination of a dispute with another driver. Surveillance footage from the area captured a white Chevrolet Impala, estimated to be a model year between 2006 and 2013, speeding alongside Slowick's car. A distinct feature of this vehicle was that its passenger-side headlight was noticeably brighter than the driver's side, a detail that authorities hoped would help in identifying the car and its driver.
In the wake of his violent death, John Slowick Jr.'s family was left devastated. He was a father to a young daughter, Evelyn. His sister, Jonie, whose birthday he had been celebrating, now has to associate that day with the profound loss of her brother. The Redford Police Department, including Captain Al DiPrima, launched an investigation and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. Despite these efforts and the circulation of the suspect vehicle's description, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of John Slowick Jr. The case remains open as his family continues to hope for justice for his untimely and senseless death.
