In the winter of 2021, the quiet community of Adrian, Michigan, was unsettled by the violent end of an 82-year-old man's life. Samuel Compton, a white male, was killed on January 15, 2021, in what would be revealed as a double homicide. His death was not a random act of violence but rather the culmination of a grim tale of alleged abuse and vigilantism.
The story that unfolded revealed that Compton, a retired chemist, was shot to death alongside 67-year-old Robert Braman Sr. on Frank Street in Adrian. The man responsible for their deaths was 34-year-old Christopher Lee-Ryan Carden. Following the shootings, Carden stole a car and led police on a brief chase before crashing the vehicle and being taken into custody.
The motive behind the killings was rooted in a dark secret. Compton, a registered sex offender, had recently been released from jail on bond.
