Brynn Bills, a 17-year-old from Alpena, Michigan, was reported missing in early August 2021. Her remains were discovered on September 29, 2021, buried in the backyard of Joshua Jay Wirgau's home in Alpena County. The identification was confirmed through her tattoos. An autopsy revealed that Brynn Bills had been strangled to death, with significant bruising around her throat and neck area, both externally and internally.
