In the early morning hours of August 15, 2021, Tevin Jermal Hunter, a 28-year-old male from South Haven, Michigan, was shot multiple times and killed in Covert Township. The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. at the Van Buren United Civic Organization, where Hunter was attending an event. Despite the efforts of law enforcement who found him at the scene and transported him to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead.
