A Certified Nursing Assistant with an associate's degree in criminal justice, Kim was described as the glue that held her family together. She was particularly close to her daughter, Tirany Savage, and her grandson, Dayton Cowdrey.
On July 10, 2022, a horrific scene unfolded within their Houghton Lake home. Kim, along with her 35-year-old daughter Tirany and 13-year-old grandson Dayton, were found shot to death. The investigation soon revealed the incident to be a murder-suicide perpetrated by Tirany's estranged husband, 35-year-old Bo Eugene Savage. After killing his wife, son, and mother-in-law, Bo Savage turned the gun on himself.
