In the small community of Coila, Mississippi, the evening of July 29, 2015, was shattered by a senseless act of violence that claimed the life of 53-year-old Kenneth 'Kim' Charles Daves. A white male known as a local business owner, Daves was discovered lifeless on the floor behind the counter of his family's K&M Grocery store. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office received a call around 9:30 p.m.
and upon arrival, deputies found that Daves had been fatally shot.
Investigators from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation processed the scene, determining that the weapon used was likely a large-caliber handgun. An autopsy later confirmed that Daves had been shot twice. Curiously, a significant amount of cash was found on his person, leading investigators to question whether robbery was the primary motive, though it could not be entirely ruled out as a possibility in a botched attempt. The community was left grappling with the brutal and puzzling nature of the crime.
Despite the passage of years and the development of numerous leads, the case has grown cold, and no arrests have ever been made in connection with the murder of Kenneth Daves. The investigation officially remains open and active, with law enforcement continuing to seek information from the public. In an effort to bring long-awaited justice to the family, the Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. This amount was combined with an $11,000 reward offered by Daves' family, bringing the total to $21,000 in the hopes that it might encourage someone to come forward and finally close this painful chapter for the Coila community.
