On the evening of December 29th, he was driving south along Midway Road in Leake County when another vehicle carrying five men pulled alongside him. In a sudden act of violence, a shotgun blast shattered the quiet of the evening, and Matthew was struck in the head.
His vehicle, now without a driver's control, became the scene of a tragedy that would leave a lasting scar on the community.
