On February 17, 2017, law enforcement officials in Rosedale, Mississippi, responded to a distress call regarding a shooting at a local residence. Upon arriving at the scene, officers entered the home to find a tragic tableau involving two unresponsive individuals. The responders discovered the body of Cedric Brown, a 33-year-old Black male, alongside a female victim identified as Nakota Cartwright.
Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, having succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds.
Detectives from the local police department and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office immediately initiated an investigation to determine the sequence of events that led to the violence. The scene was processed for forensic evidence, and investigators interviewed potential witnesses in the area to piece together the timeline.
