Jachai Colvin, a 20-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on April 16, 2017. The incident occurred at the Tippah County Fairgrounds, where a concert had taken place. A fight reportedly broke out after the event, leading to the gunfire that ended Colvin's life.
Jachai was born on December 18, 1996, in Columbus, Mississippi.
A 2016 graduate of Ripley High School, he was known as a quiet, well-mannered, and soft-spoken individual who was always willing to help others. At the time of his death, he was an employee at the Huddle House in Ripley and was a member of the Terry Street Church of Christ. His family described him as a cherished son, brother, and grandson.
In the wake of the shooting, Jachai Colvin's family made public pleas for assistance in identifying the person or persons responsible for his death. Despite their efforts and an ongoing investigation, there have been no publicly reported arrests made in connection with the homicide. The case remains unsolved, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew him and a community still waiting for justice to be served.
