In the small town of Ruleville, Mississippi, a verbal dispute on a Friday night in October 2018 tragically escalated, leading to the death of 41-year-old Walter Clark Jr. The incident unfolded in the 400 block of East Harrison Street, where Clark was found lying at the edge of a driveway with two gunshot wounds to his back.
Ruleville police received a call about the shooting at 10:57 p.m. and arrived at the scene within a minute.
Clark was still alive when officers reached him, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found three shell casings in the driveway, indicating that three shots were fired, with two striking Clark.
The investigation quickly led police to 18-year-old Tellie Robertson. Acting on a tip, officers went to his parents' home, but he was not there. His parents later brought him to the police station. During questioning by Mississippi Bureau of Investigation officers, Robertson admitted to firing the shots that killed Walter Clark Jr.
Robertson was arrested and booked into the Sunflower County Jail in the early morning hours of the following Saturday. He was charged with murder, and his bond was set at $100,000 during his initial court appearance. The motive for the shooting is believed to have been a verbal argument between Robertson and Clark.
