In the early morning hours of December 15, 2018, the life of 18-year-old Makailuis L. Johnson, a male from Natchez, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. Johnson was in a vehicle with two other individuals near 617 East Stiers Lane when an unknown person approached and opened fire. The assailant, armed with what authorities believe was a high-powered rifle, shot Johnson multiple times.
The Adams County Coroner was called to the scene at 3:41 a.m. and pronounced Johnson dead at 4:10 a.m.
Another teenager in the vehicle, Xavier Jenkins, was also struck by the gunfire, sustaining a non-life-threatening wound to his leg. The survivors reported that they did not recognize the shooter, and a motive for the attack was not immediately clear.
Natchez Police processed the crime scene and collected evidence, but no arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. The investigation into the murder of Makailuis L. Johnson remains open. Authorities have continued to seek information from the public in the hopes that new leads will emerge to bring those responsible for his death to justice. As of now, the case is unsolved, and no suspects have been publicly identified or apprehended.
