In a tragic turn of events stemming from a family dispute, 27-year-old Martrez Antorin Townes died on Monday, January 14, 2019, at his home near Hernando, Mississippi. The male victim succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound following a physical altercation with his own brother.
Authorities from the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department reported that the two brothers had been involved in a fight. Following the initial confrontation, Marquis Townes was reportedly running from the house when Martrez pursued him. It was then that Marquis turned and fired the shot that would prove fatal. Despite the injury, Martrez was able to call 911 for help, but he died a short time later.
The suspect, identified as Martrez's brother, Marquis Tantorin Townes, was apprehended by Hernando Police officers during a traffic stop early the next morning. He was found driving his deceased brother's truck, approximately 10 minutes from the scene of the shooting. Marquis Townes was subsequently jailed on a murder charge in connection with his brother's death. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced a charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon, and his bond was set at $1 million. The specific reasons for the argument that escalated to such a tragic conclusion were still under investigation by authorities.
