In February 2019, the life of 38-year-old Kendrick Armstrong, a male from Bruce, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. His family grew worried after being unable to reach him for several hours, which was highly out of character for the man they described as a loving, caring, and family-oriented person who had just celebrated his birthday. This concern led them to file a missing person's report with the Bruce Police Department.
The search for Armstrong ended in sorrow when his body was
discovered in a creek behind a home near Pittsboro. He was not alone; the body of 59-year-old Sherri Turner Calderon, a close friend, was also found at the scene. Both victims had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The discovery sent ripples of grief through the Calhoun County community, leaving Armstrong's family devastated and searching for answers.
An investigation into the double homicide led authorities to the home on County Road 285 where the bodies were found. There, they questioned the homeowners, 28-year-old Christopher Keel and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Trinity Hastings. Based on information gathered during the investigation, both were arrested in connection with the deaths. Keel was charged with capital murder, while Hastings was charged as an accessory after the fact to murder. Both individuals were also accused of possessing methamphetamine. While a motive for the killings was not immediately released by law enforcement, the arrests brought a small measure of closure to a family grappling with an immense and sudden loss.
