In the early hours of a Monday morning in Simpson County, Mississippi, the sound of gunshots shattered the predawn quiet on Boswell Lofton Road. When sheriff's deputies arrived at the residence around 3:30 a.m. on June 8, 2020, they discovered a scene of chaos and violence. Inside the home, they found three individuals who had been shot.
Among the victims was 19-year-old Datavion Fairley, a male resident of Brandon, Mississippi.
He was gravely wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. Another teenager, 17-year-old Briceyah Mills, was found deceased at the scene. A third man, 24-year-old Jarvis Loftin, sustained injuries but survived the attack.
Investigators quickly determined that the incident was a double homicide and believed that the victims likely knew their attacker or attackers. The Simpson County Sheriff's Office began an intensive investigation to identify those responsible for the deadly shooting. Their efforts led them to name a suspect in the case: Cody Emmonte Hall. Authorities announced that Hall was wanted on two counts of capital murder and five counts of armed robbery in connection with the incident.
Datavion, known to his loved ones as 'Pepe,' was a member of the North Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and had attended Magee Public Schools. He was a father to a young son and enjoyed football, basketball, and spending time with his family and friends. His funeral services were held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, as his family and community mourned the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
