On August 29, 2020, tragedy struck in Marshall County, Mississippi, claiming the life of 56-year-old Black male Robert Ellis. Authorities were called to a scene in the 500 block of French Road in the Byhalia area, where they discovered Ellis, a resident of Cayce Road, had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The violence of that day also left a second individual injured; this person was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigative efforts by the Marshall County
Sheriff's Department led to the identification of a suspect residing in the same vicinity as the shooting. Warrants were issued for 25-year-old Treldrick Duncan, who lived in the 600 block of French Road. By late September 2020, investigators, working in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force of the U.S. Marshal Service, tracked Duncan to Memphis, Tennessee. He was taken into custody there, charged with murder in connection with Ellis's death, and held while awaiting extradition proceedings to return him to Mississippi to face the charges.
