In the spring of 2021, the community of Picayune, Mississippi, was shaken by a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 41-year-old Craig Thomas McDonald. On the morning of Sunday, April 11th, on Fern Drive, McDonald was shot and killed in an incident that authorities would later describe as gang-related.
Investigators with the Picayune Police Department acted swiftly, and by the following afternoon, an arrest was made in connection with the deadly shooting. Ronald M. Mark, Jr., also 41 years old and a resident of Sally Drive in Picayune, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of McDonald.
Due to the belief that the shooting was tied to ongoing gang activity and stemmed from previous altercations, Picayune Police Chief Freddy Drennan enlisted the assistance of the FBI Task Force based in Biloxi. The involvement of federal investigators was sought to leverage their extensive resources and expertise in handling such cases, as well as to help prevent any potential retaliatory violence in the wake of McDonald's death. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
