In the summer of 2021, the community of Petal, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent death of one of its residents. On the morning of July 23rd, 46-year-old Terry Gene Rutland, a White/Caucasian male, was found with a fatal gunshot wound outside a home on Owens Lane in Forrest County. The call to emergency services came in at approximately 9:21 a.m., and though paramedics arrived swiftly to render aid, Rutland was pronounced dead at the scene.
