In the small community of Shuqualak, Mississippi, the life of Montrell Burrage, a 40-year-old man, was cut short in a violent encounter. Known to his friends and family as 'Bird,' Burrage was born on January 18, 1981, in Noxubee County. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Flexible Flyer and Prime Line.
On October 3, 2021, an argument on a highway in Noxubee County escalated with tragic consequences.
During the altercation with another individual identified as Langford, Burrage was shot. He was rushed to Jackson University Hospital, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries the following day, on October 4, 2021.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement initiated an investigation that led to the arrest of Langford on charges related to the shooting. Later, it was reported that a second suspect involved in the murder case had also been taken into custody. The community mourned the loss of Montrell Burrage, with funeral services held at Friendship Cemetery in Gholson. He was survived by his parents, Robert Burrage and Peggy Howlett, his fiancé Yolanda Harris, as well as several siblings and step-daughters.
