On October 13, 2022, Travis Jones, an 18-year-old senior at Lake High School, was shot and killed in his vehicle near the intersection of Old Highway 80 and Johnson Town Road in Lake, Mississippi. A standout defensive lineman for the school's football team, Jones had recently been named player of the week and had recorded 20 tackles during the season.
