In the early winter of 1904, the life of Deputy U.S. Marshal Edward R. Fink, a 40-year-old male lawman, was tragically cut short near the town of Wetumka, Oklahoma. On Monday, November 28th, while in the line of duty, he was shot and killed as he attempted to apprehend two individuals. Fink had been pursuing the men on suspicion of their involvement in the illegal whiskey trade, a prevalent issue in the Indian Territory at the time.
