Robert S. Garrett, who served as the City Marshal of Hastings, Oklahoma, tragically lost his life on October 16, 1909. He was 44 years old at the time of his death. Garrett's demise was the result of a gunshot wound, inflicted in an act of revenge. The incident that led to his murder occurred eight months prior when Garrett, along with the county commissioner, informed a property owner that a portion of his land would be acquired through eminent domain for the construction of a bridge.
