In the early hours of April 4, 2016, the life of Erik Tucker, a 35-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in Ardmore, Oklahoma. A shooting broke out around midnight at a residence located in the 700 block of C Street NW. During the incident, Tucker sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the face, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A woman who was living with Tucker, Jennifer Alexander, was also shot multiple times.
She was transported to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition following surgery.
The investigation into the violent encounter led law enforcement to identify a suspect. Joshua A. Scott, a 26-year-old man from the nearby town of Sulphur, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Authorities charged Scott with first-degree murder for the death of Tucker, shooting with intent to kill for the injuries inflicted upon Alexander, and felonious possession of a firearm. The weapon used in the commission of the crimes was identified as a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.
As the legal process began to unfold, it was revealed that Joshua A. Scott had prior felony convictions for burglary and larceny. Due to the severity of the charges, he was held without bond. The motive for the deadly shooting was not immediately made clear as the Ardmore Police Department continued its investigation, conducting interviews and gathering evidence. Given the premeditated nature of the alleged crimes, Scott faced the possibility of severe penalties, including the death penalty, life in prison without the possibility of parole, or a life sentence.
