In the early morning hours of July 11, 2016, the life of 22-year-old Tyler Don Muck was tragically cut short in his Luther, Oklahoma home. Muck, a 2012 graduate of Luther High School and an electrician, was a father to a son and a daughter.
The events that led to his death began with an argument between Muck and a woman at his residence located at 17411 NE 234th Street. According to witness statements, another man, William Haywood, intervened in the dispute.
Witnesses reported that Haywood fatally shot Muck during the altercation.
Immediately following the shooting, Haywood fled the scene in Muck's vehicle. The car was later found abandoned on Luther Road, between Covell and Coffee Creek. Authorities quickly identified Haywood as a person of interest and initiated a search. Initially, investigators were looking to interview Haywood to determine whether the shooting was an act of self-defense or a deliberate act of violence.
After eluding law enforcement for several days, William Haywood was apprehended in Tahlequah. While Muck's family and friends were holding a memorial service at Luther High School Auditorium, authorities announced his capture. Following his arrest, Haywood was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a charge of first-degree murder, as the investigation led authorities to believe the act was not one of self-defense.
