In the small city of Idabel, Oklahoma, a grim discovery was made on January 4, 2018. Jarrin Boyles, a 40-year-old man, was found unresponsive, lying in a pool of blood at a residential intersection. Initially, the call to police suggested a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. However, upon arrival at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, it was tragically determined that Boyles had been shot in the head.
At the time of the discovery, Boyles had no identification on him, leaving his identity a
temporary mystery. Evidence at the scene suggested that he had also been the victim of a robbery. Boyles, who was from Pottsboro, Texas, worked as a door-to-door cleaning product salesman. His work had brought him to Idabel, where his life was violently cut short.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the homicide case. Their investigation led them to 22-year-old Dakota Shay Fox of Idabel. Fox was subsequently arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of Jarrin Boyles.
In January 2019, Dakota Fox's case went to trial at the McCurtain County District Court. The jury, after a trial that began on January 14, returned with a guilty verdict on January 16. In a remarkably swift deliberation of less than 40 minutes, the jury not only convicted Fox but also recommended a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
