Floyd Chianti Davenport IV, a 15-year-old male, died on July 15, 2018, outside his home in Bethany, Oklahoma. Born prematurely at just one pound and ten ounces, he had defied the odds from his first moments, earning the affectionate nickname 'Bad Bad' from his grandmother for the strong grip he had on his intravenous tube.
On that July day, a frantic 911 call captured his father's
desperate pleas, 'Baba stay woke, Baba stay woke!' as Floyd lay wounded. The fatal incident was the result of a shooting that authorities later described as accidental. Another teenager, a 16-year-old boy, was involved in the circumstances that led to Floyd's untimely death.
Following the shooting, the 16-year-old admitted to his role in the accidental discharge of the firearm that killed Floyd. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young man whose life had been a testament to resilience from the very beginning.
