Mark Anthony Johnson, a 40-year-old Black man from Bethany, Oklahoma, spent the late evening of July 20, 2022 at the Western Oaks Apartment Complex on Northwest 22nd Street, an ordinary midweek night that turned abruptly violent. Just after 10 p.m., multiple 911 calls came into Bethany police reporting a burst of gunfire at the complex, located around 7404 NW 22nd Street near Northwest 23rd and Rockwell. When officers arrived, they found Johnson lying outside, mortally wounded from gunshots.
