In a tragic turn of events on a Wednesday evening in April 2019, a heated argument between a father and son escalated to a fatal confrontation at their home north of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Travis Kirchner, a 45-year-old male, was shot and killed by his son, 23-year-old Ty Kirchner. The dispute, which occurred around 8:30 p.m., ended with Travis Kirchner sustaining a fatal gunshot wound.
Immediately following the initial shooting, the situation escalated further when another family member
arrived at the residence. Upon witnessing the scene, this family member fatally shot Ty Kirchner. When law enforcement arrived at the home, located approximately 50 miles north of Tulsa, both Travis and Ty Kirchner were deceased.
The Osage County Sheriff's Office investigated the double shooting. Initial reports from deputies at the scene were later corrected by the sheriff, who clarified that the son, Ty, had shot his father, Travis, first. The family member who shot Ty Kirchner was not arrested. Authorities stated that this individual may have acted in self-defense. The incident left the family and the small community shaken by the violent loss of two family members in a single evening.
