In the fall of 2020, a domestic dispute in a Tulsa, Oklahoma home escalated into a tragic double homicide, claiming the lives of 16-year-old Neveha Alexander and her aunt, Chantel Dean. The young, Black female was shot and killed on October 7, 2020, in a residence near Pine and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The devastating incident unfolded as Neveha's 12-year-old sister bravely hid in a closet and called 911.
The authorities have stated that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between Chantel Dean and her boyfriend, Howard Peeples. Shortly after the killings, police arrested Peeples about a mile away from the scene of the crime.
Howard Peeples was subsequently charged with the murders of both Neveha Alexander and Chantel Dean. The case proceeded to trial, and in March 2022, a jury found him guilty of the murders. The jury recommended a sentence of life in prison for his actions. The community mourned the loss of Neveha, who was remembered as a happy and loving individual who always sought to bring smiles to the faces of others.
