Tiffani Hill, a 31-year-old female member of the Choctaw Nation, experienced a life-altering event in November 2020 when she won a staggering $2 million from a lottery scratcher in California. Following this windfall, she married John Donato, who was 42, and they relocated with her children to the small town of Calera, Oklahoma. This new chapter, however, took a dark and unforeseen turn as the couple's relationship reportedly became strained, with family and legal representatives later
revealing that the lottery winnings were a significant source of conflict.
The dream that her newfound wealth promised began to unravel into a nightmare. According to a lawyer for her family, Tiffani was attempting to escape an abusive relationship with Donato. The situation reached a devastating climax on July 30, 2021. On that day, inside their Calera home, John Donato shot and killed Tiffani. He then turned the weapon on their one-year-old daughter, Leanne, before taking his own life.
When authorities, including the Calera Police, the FBI, and Choctaw Tribal Police, arrived at the residence, they discovered the grim scene. Tiffani Hill and John Donato were pronounced dead at the home. Their infant daughter, Leanne, was found critically injured and was immediately airlifted to a hospital for emergency medical care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the young child succumbed to her injuries three days later, on August 2nd. Fortunately, three other children who were in the house during the horrific event were found unharmed and were placed in state custody. Due to the involvement of a tribal member and the location of the incident, the Federal Bureau of Investigation took the lead on the case. As the perpetrator of the double murder was also deceased, there were no arrests to be made. The remaining lottery funds were reportedly placed into a trust for the surviving children.
