In the early morning hours of July 18, 2022, in Roland, Oklahoma, a violent encounter tragically cut short the life of Stephen Moravac, a 42-year-old male. The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Nichols Street, where Moravac was fatally shot. Emergency services transported him to a hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
When Roland police officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found 34-year-old Cody Nichols, who
admitted to shooting Moravac. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office with the ensuing investigation. Nichols was taken into custody and subsequently arrested on a complaint of manslaughter the following day at the Roland police station. He was later charged with first-degree manslaughter.
Stephen Andrew Moravac, born on August 6, 1979, in Kansas City, Kansas, was a retired U.S. Army veteran. His obituary described him as a loving father, son, and brother.
